Hardwiring dash cam of 2019 QX60

Finally decided to hardwire the dash cam of my 2019 qx60, been meaning to for a while but didn't want cables draped all over the interior. I'm considering tapping into the dome light assembly for power to keep things clean and avoid messing with the fuse box or running wires down the A-pillar. From what I can tell, there's decent space behind the overhead console, but I haven't dug into it yet. Has anyone here done this on their own? what I dont know now is if the dome light wiring can safely handle the dash cam, and whether there's constant or switched power up there.

Not a pro but from what I know, most dome light circuits you should find a switched power source that's active when the door is open or the interior lights are on.

haven't done this yet bec this is quite tricky well at least for me bec it will require you check and identify wirings but i think it's doable with the help of a manual. Otherwise, if you're not comfortable in doing so, get a professional car audio installer or auto electrician to do it

It's doable. I've done the same thing. But double check if it's constant or switched because some cameras need to always be on? I think? Use a multimeter if you're not sure so you don't play a guessing game on the current. It's a clean setup tho!

Have you looked into the specific power needs of your dash cam? And also, does your dash cam have a parking mode feature that always need power when the car is off? That's usually the main reason some go to the fuse box for a constant power source.

It's convenient, but not something I'd recommend. The wiring isn't designed for additional load, plus you'll need to do a lot of rewiring and cutting to get continuous power, otherwise the dashcam will be off when you close the door or turn off the interior lights.
